Portal 2 in-game map editor announced by Valve

No Comments 13 November 2011

1321203941 54 Portal 2 in game map editor announced by Valve

Valve has announced an in-game map editor for Portal 2, due for release early next year. which probably means about 2014, knowing Valve.

This major update will feature an easy-to-use in-game map editor that will let users design, build and share their own single-player and co-op test chambers with the community, who will be able to view, play and vote on them with a simple click.

Completed levels can be viewed and shared with the Portal 2 community, which can vote on their favourites. Valve set the groundwork for the latter in its recent Peer Review DLC.

Valve has not made it clear whether the DLC will be available on the 360, PS3 and PC or just the latter. Peer Review was available on all three platforms.

The in-game map editor will be "easy-to-use" claims Valve in its press release, but it don’t say whether that’s easy to use for geniuses or regular stupid people like me. And perhaps you.

Portal 2 is one of the most recent entrants into the exclusive VideoGamer.com 10/10 club. You can find out why in our Portal 2 review.

Resident Evil: Revelations has co-op

1320150778 62 Resident Evil: Revelations has co op

Upcoming Nintendo 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations features two-player local and online co-op, as well as StreetPass support.

Confirmation comes from the Japanese Resident Evil: Revelations website, which has just been updated.

According to a translation on NeoGaf, it mentions the number of players is “1, 2 for Wireless Play”, and that it supports “Local Play, Internet Play, StreetPass and Slidepad.”

The news conflicts with Capcom’s June assertion that Revelations was a single-player only experience.

At E3 Capcom announced new playable character Parker Luciani, a Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member who fights alongside series favourite Jill Valentine.

The announcement sparked speculation that the game would feature co-op play using the Nintendo 3DS Wi-fi connection feature.

“You can see the game is very focused on that horror atmosphere, so it’s not made for co-op play,” Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata told Eurogamer.

“We’re focusing on the single-player this time.”

Revelations, which has exactly the same control set-up as Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D, is set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.

It is seen as a return to the series’ survival horror roots – a fact Capcom hopes will lead some new Resident Evil players to seek out the first three games in the illustrious zombie kill-em-up.

What You Need to Know About Kinect Sports

1317099938 61 What You Need to Know About Kinect Sports

Kinect Sports is the first controller-free sports game to track the whole of your body using Microsoft latest motion sensing controller – Kinect Sensor. This video game is quite different from any other game you have played whether on Wii or PS3 in that it more involving.

Featured in this game are the following sports: soccer, beach volleyball, bowling, table tennis, track and field, and boxing all having different level of challenges and skill sets for all players. the video game can be played in single player mode against the computer or in multiplayer mode either online or with family and friends.

The nearest rival to this video game appears to be Wii Sports but when compared against each other, Kinect Sports comes up top in these areas:

1. Wii Sports requires the use of a controller and the needs to master the use of the button to play it. in this video game there is no need for a controller therefore making the video game more interesting.

2. Wii Sports cannot be played online. This is not a problem with Kinect Sports as you can now enjoy a bowling game with mates or stranger online.

3. Kinect sport is also a nice multiplayer game than Wii Sports as players can easily drop in and out of the game

Another big plus for this video game is in the area of it’s well designed graphics and the fact that all ages will find this game easy to play because of the well designed menu.

However to get the best out of Kinect Sports you need to play in multiplayer mode. Playing against the computer in single player mode can sometimes be frustrating especially at higher levels of the game. also, you need plenty of room in front of your TV to play the game. This helps in getting out of each others ways when playing against family or friends.

Kinect Sports really shows off Microsoft’s motion sensing controller and is a well designed game with hours of entertainment and fun for the family. This game is a must have for all Xbox 360 owners.

Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year Edition Releasing on October 11

A Game of the Year edition of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, featuring all post-release additional content for the game, will be released in October.

Red Dead Redemption was universally lauded as an excellent game upon its release last year. since then, it has played host to a wide variety of downloadable addon content for both its single player and multiplayer modes. now, the original game and all that content is being collected together in a special Game of the Year edition, set to release in North America on October 11 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $49.99.

The pack includes the original Red Dead Redemption game with a “brand new hardcore single player mode” along with the Undead Nightmare single player campaign and multiplayer modes. On top of this, it also includes the Legends and Killers, Liars and Cheats and Hunting and Trading Outfits packs along with the Outlaws to the end Co-Op Mission Pack, the Solomon’s Folly single player gang hideout and challenges and the recently released Myths and Mavericks Bonus Pack. There will also be a selection of new preorder content available, including a Deadly Assassin Outfit, a War Horse and a Golden Guns Weapon Pack.

For those who haven’t yet played the game — or even for those who haven’t bought any of the DLC and want to get it all in one convenient bundle — this sounds like an excellent deal. keep an eye on the official website for further information on preordering and release information as it gets closer to October 11.

Still no news on a PC version, though.

Itadaki Street Wii Impressions – Impressions – Nintendo World Report

No Comments 20 September 2011

Itadaki Street, known in North America as Fortune Street, is going to arrive outside of Japan for the first time in the series’ history this December. what exactly does this mean for the Wii audience?  There are already a number of party games available on the console, but can the charm of of Mario, Slimes, and a hint of Monopoly be enough to pique the interest of gamers on the Wii?

14 Itadaki Street Wii Impressions Impressions Nintendo World Report

The TGS demo area of Itadaki Street was, expectedly, packed with children and families looking to have some good old-fashioned family fun. to ruin this effect, I jumped ahead of the hour-plus line. in the demo area, I had a chance to play the game for a pretty extended period of time. although there were multiple units set up in the booth, everything was set to single-player mode, so it was a bit difficult to get the full effect of the game, whose roots, even back to the Famicom version, point toward 2-4 player multiplayer as the definitive way to experience it. The single-player demo had the player choose from one of three pre-made Miis, while the computer controlled Toad and a blue Slime character.

Either I was missing something entirely, or there were simply no mini-games at all in this demo of Itadaki Street. After glancing over to the guy sitting next to me, I noticed that he never encountered any of them either. The demo was strictly focused on going around the very small game board based on the roll of a die and the purchasing of properties (a la Monopoly). Obviously, the more properties you own, the more money you can make. The player with the most money at the end of the game is the winner.

18 Itadaki Street Wii Impressions Impressions Nintendo World ReportYeah, none of these in the build that I played.

As Neal Ronaghan reported in his impressions from the E3 build of the title, Itadaki Street is one of those kind of titles that just does not demo well. While the game was very well put together and was extremely polished, I kept getting the feeling that the gameplay experience would be enhanced if I were playing with friends or family. in Japan, Itadaki Street will more than likely be able to reach the same audience that bought Mario Party and Wii Party. with the included brand of Dragon Quest, it will make it all the more appealing to the Japanese audience. however, the general unfamiliarity of Dragon Quest, coupled with the market that this title will likely appeal to (casual gamers and families), will make it a tough sell in North America.

Medal of Honor – Airborne (PS3) – Experiencing the World War

No Comments 18 September 2011

Medal of Honor Airborne (PS3) Experiencing the World War

Invented in 1999, the Medal of Honor-Airborne is centered around the different aspects of the World War II. it is a shooter computer game, developed by EA Los Angeles, and was released worldwide in September 2007. Its PS III version is slated to get released in November 2007. Part of the Medal of Honor series, this one is the first from the series to focus on paratrooper activities.

The players are made to step in the shoes of Travis Boyd, who is a private in the airborne infantry. you get to be part of their first experimental deployments in the World War II. As the word ‘Airborne’ signifies, contrary to the other FPS games, here you don’t just have to walk a path but can drop down from the sky as well. A lot of freedom of action is given to the player in this version of the game. Most single player FPS games lack in this department, whereas this one gives the whole mission a free form feeling. Most of the objectives can be performed in any order that you wish.

The game is being played in the European theater and the varied missions include insertions into Germany, Italy, Northern France and Netherlands. Unlike the earlier version which followed a linear game play style, this one gives you the complete freedom to start the game anywhere in the map. in consonance with the name, the beginning of the mission is marked with jumping out of the plane and parachuting down to the ground.

The players are free to decide where in the battlefield they would like to be dropped, and that flagged space is where the players will find their allies and supplies. Technically speaking, the game uses a modified Unreal 3 Engine, which was specifically designed for DirectX 9, PlayStation, 10 PCs and Xbox 360. get this for your PlayStation and get a hand-on experience of the World War II.

#5 Donkey Kong Country Returns

For all you Wii owners out there this is one of the hottest games this year. the game is directly inspired by the early games of Donkey Kong. however this game has a new twist that modern fans might enjoy. the game features both a single player and cooperative mode. In the cooperative mode players can team up with a friend who plays Diddy Kong. the game features a familiar theme that some of your might recognize. even though the evil tikis are new to the game.

The storyline is simply a group of evil tikis has influenced the animals of Donkey Kong Island to steal Donkey Kongs banana hoard. Being an ape he wants to get them back. Donkey Kong Country Returns is a side-scrolling adventure game that’s definitely appropriate for children of all ages. This game will spark an interest in Donkey Kong just like we had when we were kids.

#4 Syma 3 Channel S107

You know that one gift on Christmas that everyone crowds around? every just seems to ignore every gift to play with that one toy? Well this is that gift. the only problems with this toy is that they break easily and only have twelve minutes of battery life. other than that it’s one of the most fun toys that I’ve ever played with. If you don’t know what the toy is it’s a remote controlled helicopter.

It’s actually one of the best selling toys at the writing of this article. the reason being is that they are extremely fun to play with. the only problems with them are as we mentioned above they break easily. other than that I don’t think you can find a better gift than this. To increase it’s life I would recommend following the instructions. Which specifically tell you not to play with it outside and don’t crash.

#3 Disney’s Epic Mickey

Disney’s Epic Mickey is part of Disney’s re-branding of the Mickey Mouse. In the game they’re trying to reveal a darker side of Mickey. Disney’s Epic Mickey was developed by Junction Point Studios and was published for the Nintendo Wii console. At the writing of this article the game is fairly new. It’s only been released a weeks ago. since then it has managed to become one of the best selling games for the Nintendo Wii.

The Epic Mickey game is an open-ended platform that features a morale system. each level features multiple unique solutions that players can choose on there own. the players choices are highly important to gameplay. In fact the choices you make could potentially decide if you fight a boss battle. While making some choices will allow you to avoid a boss battle entirely. currently the game has had mixed reviews. Out of the 39 people who reviewed this product it only average a three star rating. before buying this gift I would recommend doing some quick research.

#2 Hedbanz Game

If your kids don’t have a Nintendo Wii then don’t worry they’ll love this great gift. This gift you’ve probably seen before or at least heard of the game. the facts are that you don’t even have to buy the set to play the game. you can simply play it by sitting down as a family. each player then writes on a piece of paper an object, thing, name, or whatever theme you want to choose. the paper is then passed to the left. without looking at the paper the player puts it on his forehead for everyone to see.

The players then ask a limited amount of questions to find out what they are. even though you could play without the kit the majority of people choose to buy it. the reason being is that it comes with a bunch of cards with objects already on them. on top of that it also includes a headband that will hold the card in place.

#1 Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is another great Mario game brought to you by Nintendo for the Nintendo Wii. the game is the direct sequel to the original Super Mario Galaxy. In the game you’ll be playing as Mario who’s pursuing the evil Bowser into outer space. like many of the previous Mario titles Bowser has capture Princess Peach. however, he’s also managed to take control of the universe using power stars. the game revolves around traveling to various galaxies to recover the power stars that will allow you to travel to the center of the universe to stop Bowser.

The gameplay is similar to that of the original Super Mario Galaxy. the game focuses mainly on platforming on and around 3D planets that vary in themes, size, and landscapes. In the game players will take control of Mario and at times his brother Luigi. Overall we think this would make a great gift for kids who own their Nintendo Wiis. If you don’t own a Nintendo Wii then try some of our other gift suggestions.

GamerDad: Gaming with Children – Don’t Judge a Game by its Rating » Game Review: Wipeout: In the Zone (Xbox 360 Kinect)

No Comments 12 September 2011

GamerDad: Gaming with Children Dont Judge a Game by its Rating » Game Review: Wipeout: In the Zone (Xbox 360 Kinect)

ABC’s hit game show Wipeout pits contestants to run a super challenging obstacle course for cash and prizes. Now fans of the show can literally jump into the action and run the courses themselves with Wipeout: in the Zone for Xbox 360 Kinect.

The single player game has events similar to the TV show. in fact, the different series of obstacles are broken up into arranged ‘episodes’ that you can select. Once you select an episode and difficulty level, you’ll run the obstacles.

The motion controls are mostly easy to do. Walk or run in place to move forward. Jump to hop over obstacles, and crouch to duck under them. Hold your arms out to your sides to balance across narrow walkways. And side step to avoid the boxing gloves on the Sucker Punch wall.

One problem is the game can be a little buggy sometimes. At times this can work to your advantage. Sometimes, after falling, you can jump and the character on screen will hop in mid-air, saving you from a fall in the drink. But other times, your character can get stuck in a wedge with no way to get out.

Another problem is the difficulty level. just like the show, some of the obstacles are near impossible to pass. Try as I might, I could never jump through all the giant spheres in the famous “Big Balls” event. Luckily, you can hold your hands up in the air after a checkpoint if you want to skip past the next obstacle if it’s giving you too much trouble. just don’t expect to master the game right away.

But the game seems more about having fun rather than winning. You can use your Xbox avatar to run the races, and after you’re done, the Kinect camera will take pictures of you showing how silly you looked! The game shows all sorts of crazy replays when you goof up, and there is tons of humorous commentary by the actual announcers of the show. in multiplayer mode, players who aren’t running the race can use controllers to shoot paintballs at the other competitors to distract them. there is also a Practice Mode which instructs you how to bypass the many obstacles. while it may not be the best Kinect game in the world, fans of the TV show may find some enjoyment in it.

Kid Factor:

Wipeout: in the Zone is rated E-10 for Everyone 10 and Up with ESRB descriptors of Comic Mischief and Mild Cartoon Violence. Characters get bonked and smacked around, but if you’re OK with your kids watching the TV show, they’ll be OK with the game, too. in fact, the game seems less violent since it’s more cartoony and not as realistic looking. Reading skill isn’t necessary, but some players may get frustrated with the difficulty. But young fans of the TV show who don’t mind constantly losing will still get plenty of laughs with the game, and it does encourage youngsters and adults to get off the couch and get some exercise, too.
