1321187740 63 Madden NFL 12 Roster Updates: Week 9 Update Sees Just Two Changes For Browns

The Madden NFL 12 roster update for week 9 is set to come out on Friday for Xbox 360 and PS3 users. For the Cleveland Browns, coming off a loss to the San Francisco 49ers, not much is changing in regards to ratings updates. They only have two changes in player ratings this time around, one increase and one decrease.

This is probably because the 49ers are recognized as a better team and Cleveland kept the game close and competitive. San Francisco actually looked pretty bad during the second half of the game and the Browns fell just short of making a comeback. Go ahead and make the jump for the list of Browns changes.

Increases

WR Josh Cribbs 78 to 79

Decreases

DL Jabaal Sheard 80 to 79

Changes

HB Montario Hardesty lowered on depth chartHB Xavier Omon releasedHB Thomas Clayton signedWR Brian Robiskie releasedOL Oniel Cousins now ears #72HB Chris Ogbonnaya moved to HB #2 on depth chartWR Carlton Mitchell moved to WR #4 on depth chart

They’re pretty minor changes, but any time a player moves into a different group of ten, I consider it significant. Sheard started off the season very well but slowed down and was handled well by the 49ers, so he dropped a point and fell to 79. Cribbs got an increase after being worked into the offense more. All-in-all, a pretty quiet update in regards to the

Cleveland Browns Running Back Peyton Hillis Latest Victim Of The Madden Curse

No Comments 11 November 2011

1321052741 56 Cleveland Browns Running Back Peyton Hillis Latest Victim Of The Madden Curse

When it comes to sports curses, aside from the Chicago Cubs, there’s no more active superstition than the Madden curse. Since 1999, almost every year something bad has happened to the cover athlete of Electronic Arts’ bestselling Madden NFL franchise. Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis is the latest victim of this curse.

Hillis is the first Madden cover athlete who was voted in by fans through an ESPN cross-promotion with EA Sports. last year, the running back rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. He came out of nowhere to beat Aaron Rodgers and other NFL superstars. This year, Hillis has been plagued by injuries and surrounded by trade rumors. The running back took flack for sitting out a game for strep throat. And now he’s out with a hamstring injury.

Hillis has also been in the middle of a contract dispute with the Browns. The team offered him a contract extension earlier this year, but Hillis, taking the advice of his agent, walked away. Now with the injuries, conspiracy theorists are having a field day with all of this drama. It’s likely that Hillis will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season, which is shaping up to be a very long one for the Browns (2-3) and their star running back.

After the lockout ended, Hillis told me he was excited to play football again and humbled by the fans selecting him to be on the cover of the new game. He seemed genuine in the interview, but that was before things went bad.

The Madden curse has even spread to runner-up cover athlete Michael Vick, who was already on the cover of Madden NFL 04. The convicted dog killer was part of the so-called Philadelphia Eagles “dream team,” only to get injured in multiple games with a concussion and broken hand. Vick also took a lot of heat from NFL legends and the media for complaining about NFL officiating after getting pummeled by opposing teams’ defenses every game. The dream team is off to a pathetic 2-4 start, as a result.

None of this has had any negative impact on the actual videogame. The new game sold 1.4 million copies in its first week after launching August 30th and has topped global sales of 2 million to date, according to VGChartz.com.

New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees was able to escape the curse last year, playing all season long without any injuries. perhaps it was the local voodoo combating the videogame curse. or maybe that was the curse rising in the playoffs to see the Saints lose pathetically to the lowly Seattle Seahawks.

In 2009, EA put two players on the cover of Madden – Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald. Polamalu only played five games due to a knee injury, while Fitzgerald escaped the curse with a Pro Bowl season.

In 2008, quarterback Brett Favre was on the cover of the 20th Anniversary Madden Edition. after coming back from retirement, Favre feuded with the Packers, was traded to the Jets and played horrible losing four of the last five games.

In 2007, quarterback Vince Young managed to play through the season with only one game missed. But after that first playoff appearance, things went downhill for the quarterback.

In 2006, Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander fractured his foot and missed six games.

In 2005, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb suffered a sports hernia in his first game and missed seven games. that year also marked the public feud with Terrell Owens.

Madden NFL 12 review (X360)

1320744977 80 Madden NFL 12 review (X360)

HAVING been a devout Madden fan in the early days and having only had the odd fumble with its later versions, the arrival of Madden NFL 12 was something to cause excitement.

Initial opening scenes and presentation are clean and concise, writes Steven “Ratbag” Norton.

Even when just playing an exhibition game in a Superbowl setting, there are some truly nice touches and camera work to keep you entertained.

Despite the complexities of American football, controls are relatively easy and – even to a novice – participating in a few offensive runs and brutal diving tackles provide plenty of entertainment early on.

This is vital, allowing Madden newbies to delve straight into the game with no or little headaches.

The newly-built collision engine adds another layer of realism to Madden’s well-structured gameplay with animation only kicking in when contact is made between players.

It’s a precise science.

Sadly, commentary throughout is average, becoming repetitive quite quickly.

One game oddly commented on the how exciting and entertaining the action was when I was locked in a nil-nil score with no action at either of the business ends of the pitch!

The upgraded offline franchise has lots of new features, including scouting, preseason cuts, and auction-style free agent mini-games for the real enthusiast.

And the updated Superstar mode feels great at first – building up your stats RPG-style by practising during the week – but will make your rookie a starter above clearly-better players instead of having you learn from the sidelines for a year or two.

The original wow factor may have passed but Madden remains a solid and technically impressive game, which will no doubt sell by the bucket-load due to its huge fanbase.

Don’t call it a comeback: Ochocinco makes return to Twitter

1319254432 86 Dont call it a comeback: Ochocinco makes return to Twitter

Great news, scholars of the universe: Chad Ochocinco is tweeting again.

The New England Patriots wide receiver ended his self-imposed 19-day Twitter ban Wednesday with a flurry of messages that just might send Tedy Bruschi into a blind rage.

“Ok I can finally tweet again, what have I missed the past 2 weeks besides that (expletive) pass n Buffalo?” Ochocinco tweeted. “Talk about bad timing, talk to me peeps?”

Ochocinco — who was banned from Twitter because he lost a bet tied to “Madden NFL 12″ (seriously) — followed that with comments admonishing fantasy owners who left him for dead following his slow start in New England.

“I’ve just been informed by numerous followers that I wasn’t traded I was dropped from their Fantasy Teams,” he tweeted. “Bunch of impatient (expletive) people!!!”

Oddly, all fantasy-related tweets later were deleted from his account. That’s Ochocinco: a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Madden NFL 12 Roster Update, Week 6: Twelve 49ers Get Ratings Increases

1318716289 72 Madden NFL 12 Roster Update, Week 6: Twelve 49ers Get Ratings Increases

The post-week five roster update for Madden NFL 12 is set to come out today (Friday), and with it comes a host of changes for both of the Bay Area’s teams, though the San Francisco 49ers receive the bulk of the improvement, after their 48-3 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs saw four of their players receiver decreases as a result of the game.

For the 49ers? twelve players went up, which has been the trend with the last two roster updates. In fact, San Francisco didn’t have a single player drop during this update, a welcome change from the beating their offensive line has been taking in real life, and on the game. The most significant increase is Chris Culliver, who jumps from a 66 overall rating to a 71. Alex Smith also jumps three points from 80 to 83, after starting the game ranked in the mid-seventies. After the jump, the complete list of ratings changes.

Increases

QB Alex Smith 80 to 83HB Frank Gore 92 to 94FB Bruce Miller 51 to 54TE Delanie Walker 70 to 73WR Kyle Williams 52 to 57CB Chris Culliver 66 to 71CB Tarell Brown 74 to 75CB Carlos Rogers 82 to 84LB Parys Haralson 79 to 81LB Aldon Smith 78 to 79LB NaVorro Bowman 77 to 80LB Ahmad Brooks 77 to 78

Decreases

Changes

WR Josh Morgan lowered on depth chart (IR)WR Ted Ginn Jr. moved to WR #2 on depth chartWR Brett Swain signsWR John Matthews signs

That’s a big list of increases, and all of them are well-deserved. some players, like Bowman and Aldon Smith, are seeing increases each week – along with quarterback Alex Smith. John Matthews making the roster is just another one of Madden’s weird inconsistencies, since he didn’t actually make the roster. He’s on the practice squad, and I guess they just want him on there for injury purposes. Our friends over at Pasta Padre have the full list of changes for all teams here.

Results of the ‘‘Madden NFL 12’’ regular-season simulation were released Tuesday, and the Packers (13-3) and Steelers (13-3) dominated their divisions.

Close behind at 12-4, the computer had the Eagles, led by Michael Vick’s MVP-worthy 29 touchdown passes and nearly 4,000 passing yards, and the Patriots.

The Saints, Rams, Colts and Chargers also captured virtual division titles, with the remaining playoff spots going to the Jets, Ravens, Falcons and —for the first time in 12 years — the Lions.

The simulator also listed the top 10 offensive performers among quarterbacks, running backs and receivers, plus the top defenders in interceptions and sacks. no Bears made any of those virtual top 10s.

1317470733 51 Review: Madden NFL 12

Madden NFL 12 is back this year and while the number goes up every year the settings, features and upgrades Madden fans requested have arrived.  I have to give it to EA Sports for keeping the franchise fresh year in and year out.  Before an official NFL season even begins EA Sports is working on everything that makes up a Madden NFL 12 game that includes the much debated front cover.  while the front cover can possess this so called “Madden Curse” many active players are honored by the annual recognition.  This year the award was narrowed down to two players.   Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick and the Cleveland Browns Running Back Peyton Hillis. Ultimately Hillis was chosen by the fans to be the front cover athlete for Madden 12.  So we begin…

Lockout CBA. the NFL lockout may have impacted players on the field but gamers were not that affected.  For those paying attention, the NFL lock out lasted a long winded 132 days.  the owners and players eventually agreed on a new collective bargaining agreement.  Those on-the-field changes were immediately implemented with one of the first updates pushed down from EA Sports.  The first change I noticed was the placement of kickoffs on the 35 yard line which almost always results in a touchback.  Hey, similar to Thursday Night opener, Saints at Packers.  thanks CBA!

Madden Ultimate Team. MUT has returned this year and EA Sports left it very much like they did in Madden 11.  Just to elaborate a bit on it’s features, here’s what MUT is all about.  your start off with a sub-par team mixed with players from different teams.  Think of the bad News Bears with shoulder pads. As you play games either in head to head or vs. the CPU you gain Madden Coins.  Here’s where the fun begins.  you can make several moves with your coins; buy Madden cards or buy/sell players through Auctions.  Buying packs is the most fun and a dynamic experience in the game.  you don’t know what players you’ll get but you are informed what tier of player you are buying determined on price.  low level player packs sell for 1000, low-medium 3000, medium for 6000 and High’s for 9000.  Legend packs are sold for cash.  you know, George Washington’s and Alexander Hamilton’s.

Be a Superstar.  this year Superstar mode gives you the option to walk-on and choose a team or enter the draft.  Since I decided to play as a QB, I was selected by the Browns and had to beat out Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace.  As long as I listened to the QB Coordinator and executed the plays, it was easy to become the starting QB in Cleveland.  Since most plays are sent down to you as Quarterback, you don’t have the option to call your own play.  I found myself hitting the audible button and elected to pass over the run.  Yes, I know it sounds greedy but I wanted to maximize my skill points.  to start, you’re given 1500 skill points.  this year, you’re also able to earn skills points in practice… practice?  Yup, practice man!  with those accrued skill points, you can level up your Superstar with the qualities you want in your player.  I like QB’s who can throw on the run, so I moved that slider first with accuracy and power following.  Play enough games, and you can beef up your guy to 99, but take too long doing that and he will age, forcing you to retire him.  I was able to play with him for 2 years strong since I entered him as a 30 year old.  Customizing his helmet, throwing style and skin color are all there and more.  in fact, I found myself in customization for 5 minutes then leaving the rest on default because there were too many options for me.  I guess people need hazel eyes and a good chin structure.

Franchise your team.  Most people love Madden for Franchise mode alone.  this year I decided to take advantage of selecting my team via Fantasy Draft with salary cap.  you are given a timer just like regular Fantasy draft leagues, but not as rushed.  You’re given 10 minutes to select your team, filling in your roster.  For my first 10 rounds, I selected the best overall player for each position with a focus on salary.  Jamaal Charles and Michael Vick were the exceptions.  but players like Dwayne Bowe are making little money compared to Donald Driver.  As I entered in Round 11, I allowed the CPU to auto-pick.  with enough patience –3 minutes later– I saw the draft end near the 49th round with my team complete.  Franchise mode allows you to evaluate each player and cut those you feel aren’t fit for the team.  this is one of the new features for Madden 12.  you can also scout rookies via the new scouting system and made bids based on your needs.  Another new feature available in Franchise mode and MUT are hot and cold streaks.  Performances from previous games will result in either hot or cold icons in the player profile which can have huge payouts.  It’s like a power-up vita-pak for your player.  Quick tip, throwing 5 more consecutive passes with your QB is a good way to get hot.

DPP.  Dynamic Player Performances keep Madden NFL 12 fresh, each and every game.  my issue with DPP was EA’s ability to make it feel like an uphill battle.  Harder to go up, easier to come down.  I find running is by far the most realistic in this year’s Madden and I have to thank DPP for that.  with some big runs my Running Back, Jamaal Charles was threading the needle thanks to my Offensive Line collapsing like a house of cards.  he still managed to get 8 yards per carry and shoved off manny secondary blockers while he was in a hot streak.  those streaks only last for 3 games.

EA’s Law.  Playing EA games since I was a child, I always noticed the challenge of play increase or decrease… dynamically.  in other words, when you play the CPU, there will always be a time where I will say, “there goes EA Law… again”.  EA Law is the inexplicable talent from a CPU player used in his advantage to level the playing field.  I still feel that in Madden 12.  on two separate occasions, I was winning vs. the CPU.  I knew since I was up, throwing even a conservative pass would somehow end up in the defenders hands, so I did what anyone with EA Law knowledge would do.  I ran consecutive plays up the middle.  the result, a fumble.  an unexplained fumble that was caused by running into the back of my own Center.  And speaking of running over Passing, I also theorized that after the first interception is made by which ever player first, there is a 99% the opponent will have an interception relatively soon, thus balancing the game.

Fantasy and Video Games under one roof.  EA Sports and NFL.com have combined forces to bring you Fantasy Football included within Madden 12.  the setup is quite easy.  on the main menu, go to Online then Fantasy.  Once you enter in your NFL.com user name and password, you’ll be able to see your league standings, player stats and transaction wire.  you also have the option to turn on the in-game notification of your Fantasy players’ performance.  to sweeten the deal, EA Sports is offering a 3000 coin incentive to link your accounts.

Visuals.  One of the first enhancements I noticed was how great and shiny all the helmets were.  in between downs, the camera will focus in on a player– most of the time the QB — and I was impressed.  some other on the field detail was streaking grass on wet fields and seeing yourself on the huge jumbotron in Cowboys Stadium.  while most of the in-game detail was enhanced last year and carried over to Madden 12 a much needed area is still the fans in the stands.  EA needs to understand that this minor realism will set the standard that much higher for those not looking for it.  when you watch a real NFL game, there are several references to fans showing appreciation on a 25 yard pass or the anxiousness on 4th and goal on the 1.  A couple of cheese heads with face paint is enough for me to be satisfied.

In-game Commentary.  Cris Collinsworth and Gus Johnson blend surprisingly well.  I found many of Gus Johnson’s enthusiastic calls to be properly timed although repetitive.  Collinsworth on the other hand throws football (no pun intended) tidbits at you such as how wide the football field is, 53 1/3 yards.  with my favorite quoting a Star Wars line “It’s a trap”.  Most times, they are accurately depicting the on field plays but remember people, it’s all pre-recorded.  unless you fly those two to your living room and ask for live commentary, you getting last nights dinner.  some minor number calls were awkward such as, the new England Patriots 24 – new York Giants 112 — where the 112 was said in a different tone.  you know that robot voice number calling I’m talking about, right?

Detailed Player Characteristics.  Big Running Backs such as Mike Turner and Brandon Jacobs have a high and tight styles while smaller guys like Darren Sproles and Maurice Jones-Drew run with quicker steps with their short strides.  Style for tall wide receivers like Andre Johnson use long strides.  several sacks on the Quarterback saw my defensive lineman pick up a fumble and slowly run towards the end zone like a kid holding a dozen eggs.  Even kickers have a swagger about them but I’m glad kicking is now easy again. the dreaded and annoying kicking mechanics for Madden 2011 are no more.  EA sports brought back the original kicking mechanism which makes kicking field goals and punts much easier and more accurate.

Bottom Line:  the year in an year out Madden will always live.  Madden fanatics want the latest game, with updated rosters (even though a digital push can update Madden 11) and new modes.  to say this year is better than Madden 11 is difficult.  If you purchase Madden every year, you will buy Madden NFL 12.  If you’re waiting, what for?  For your money, Madden NFL 12 is worth the purchase even if you’re a rookie looking to start.

Quarterbacks in Madden NFL 10

No Comments 24 September 2011

1316905543 51 Quarterbacks in Madden NFL 10

Passers in Madden NFL 10 have changed since other versions. The techniques used to use them efficiently are not equal, and what you should do to take advantage of this, and make certain that you do not have any issues in the alterations between old versions and this one.

Running quarterbacks are not as strong. There are less great running QBs in professional football. Vince Young is no longer a superb passer, and the reason that he is such a bad passer now offsets his skills to run. Michael Vick is no longer the efficient passer he was before, as well. There are no other great running QBs, and the varied ratings make sure that you can not just put in a speedy passer with sub par passing and take advantage the defense.

Throwing deep is more arduous. if you want to throw long, make sure you have an excellent QB before proceeding. And by excellent, I mean a passer with a great long pass stat. Also make sure you are passing to an awesome receiver against a subpar secondary player. All of these interwoven mean far passing is no longer as good of a selection.

The differences between passers are smaller. with more characteristics choosable to identify each QB, you can feel the large changes and little differences between each QB. This means that players with far accuracy really have long accuracy and not just a powerful arm. you can miss a lot more tackles with Ben Roethlisberger, and hurl pinpoint throws with Drew Brees.

The Most Annoying Teams in Madden NFL 12 (And How to Beat Them!)

No Comments 13 September 2011

The Most Annoying Teams in Madden NFL 12 (And How to Beat Them!)

If there’s a universal truth in Madden NFL, it’s that online players will always gravitate to the cheapest teams possible. and the NFL being what it is, those teams tend to remain relatively constant from year to year. Ask anyone who had to deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in Madden 11.

So with Madden 12 hitting the market August 30, I’ve decided to profile what will likely be the five most annoying teams in the game; and as a bonus, I’m throwing in some tips on how to beat them.

Why They’re Tough to Beat: It remains to be seen whether the Philadelphia Eagles have what it takes to win the Super Bowl, but one thing’s for sure: Andy Reid and company have put together probably the best Madden team of all time. the only way these Eagles would be tougher would be if they were lead by the Michael Vick of Madden 2004 rather than the Vick of the present–not that 91 speed is anything to sneeze at.

And it’s not like Vick’s relying on the likes of Alge Crumper and TJ Duckett this time around. Receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have terrifying speed, and halfback LeSean McCoy can burn you on the ground or through the air. On defense, they boast two of the three top corners from Madden 11–Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Needless to say, with that kind of talent, the Eagles will be a popular pick online.

How to Turn the Tables: the Eagles boast an outstanding backfield, but they’re weak upfront. their best linebacker–Moise Fokou–is only 76 OVR; and while Trent Cole and Jason Babin are two very good defensive ends, they aren’t particularly strong up the middle. moreover, with Quentin Mikell on the Rams now, their safeties aren’t particularly great either. with that in mind, the solution to beating the Eagles should be apparent: run the ball, and then run it some more. When the Eagles get the ball back, have a linebacker spy Vick and take note of your opponent’s preferred routes. Mix up your coverages while manually covering your opponent’s receivers with your free safety, and you will begin to force the kind of mistakes that will help you to victory.

Why They’re Tough to Beat: the Steelers are just plain good–no surprise given that they’ve been to three Super Bowls since 2005. their strength is mostly on defense; but speedy receivers like Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders add a dangerous dimension to the offense, and Rashard Mendenhall can be tough to stop in the hands of a good player. Basically, they’re the “Mario” of Madden NFL–they’re very good at a number of positions; and a result, they can beat you in a number of ways.

How to Turn the Tables: It’s not easy to run on the Steelers. Troy Polamalu can blow you up at anytime, and that’s before you even consider guys like 98 OVR linebacker James Harrison. That doesn’t mean that you should abandon the run entirely–just realize that you’ll probably have to go through the air to have any success.

Luckily, outside of Polamalu and the speedy corner Taylor, the Steelers defensive backfield is quite average. You’ll need to pick on corners like Bryant McFadden, who lacks both speed and coverage skills. Your opponent will probably use zone coverage to minimize that weakness, so slants and drag routes work well (just watch out for the omnipresent Polamalu). On offense, put your best corner on Wallace, and do your best to put pressure on the good-but-not-great offensive line. get a decent lead, and you may find the Steelers hard-pressed to make a comeback.

Why They’re Tough to Beat: Don’t let that average rating fool you: in Madden 11, the Oakland Raiders were the single most annoying team in the game. In fact, it got to the point that I quit as soon as someone picked the Raiders, simply because I was so sick of putting up with wide receiver Jacoby Ford and Nnamdi Asomugha. they aren’t quite as bad in Madden 12–Asomugha and tight end Zach Miller are both gone–but their team speed is still problematic. if your opponent picks the Raiders, be prepared to be frustrated.

How to Turn the Tables: Even without Asomugha, it’s still tough to move the ball on the Raiders. their defensive backfield is extremely fast, and guys like Richard Seymour can dominate the line of scrimmage up front. most Raiders players like to stick with man coverage though, so it’s possible to work the areas near the sidelines or abuse them with pitchouts (just watch out for strong safety Tyvon Branch, who boasts 95 speed).

When they have the ball, expect them to rely heavily on the run while mixing in the occasional screen or slant pattern. the name of the game with the Raiders is to frustrate you with their ball control offense, and running back Darren McFadden and his 97 speed can be quite tough to stop. Luckily, the Raiders are exceptionally weak on the right side of the line; if you want to trick them, run an SS Blitz, shift your line to the left and put your defensive end in a QB contain. if they don’t go straight up the middle, they’ll either run into your defensive end or your blitzing safety, which will cause much frustration on their end.

Why They’re Tough to Beat: It’s tough for me to say this as a diehard Vikings fan, but that Aaron Rodgers kid turned out alright. Good enough, unfortunately, that when I pit the Purple against Rodgers’ Packers, it usually ends in tears. as it turns out, the Vikings’ putrid defensive backfield is just no match for Greg Jennings, Donald Driver and Rodgers. Naturally, it’s those same qualities that will make the Packers a popular pick online, which means that I’m in for even more frustration than usual this season.

How to Turn the Tables: unless you’re playing as the Jets or the Eagles, you’re probably not beating Rodgers. Even mediocre players can just heave the ball up there; and more often than not, Jennings or Driver will come down with it (Driver has a 97 Catch in Traffic Rating). and even if you shut down those guys, Jermichael Finley is there for the quick outlet pass.

Really, the only obvious weakness that the Packers have is their running game. the Ryan Grant-John Kuhn-James Starks tandem might work well in real life; but in Madden, they’re pretty mediocre. Thus, Packers fans are apt to rely heavily on the pass, which plays into your hands somewhat. Blitz linebackers through the gaps and generally try to keep Rodgers off-balance, or he will be able to sit back and pick you apart. When you get the ball back, play ball control defense and try to run away from Clay Matthews as much as possible. Methodically drive down the field, minimize the impact of guys like Jennings with manually coverage, and you will have a decent chance to win.

Why They’re Tough to Beat: the Detroit Lions haven’t established themselves as a powerhouse–or nuisance–in quite the same sense as the Raiders or Packers, but it wouldn’t be a shock if they became a popular pick this season. They’ve got many of the ingredients needed to be a powerful Madden team: a great receiver, a speedy running and a good quarterback who can get them the ball. the defensive backs are definitely wanting; but if Madden 12′s pass rush is really as vicious as it looks, watch out.

How to Turn the Tables: Lions players usually have one strategy: go up top to Calvin Johnson. unfortunately, this is a strategy that usually works, as Megatron has 95 speed and 99 jumping. and once you start double (or triple) covering him, a smart opponent will go to speedy receiver Nate Burleson, reliable tight end Brandon Pettigrew or Jahvid Best–another speedster–out of the backfield.

It is possible to get pressure on Detroit’s mediocre line though, so blitz linebackers through the gaps and generally try to make sure that Stafford doesn’t have time to set and throw deep to Johnson. if you don’t let them turn the game into a track meet, you should be able to take your time and pick apart the slow secondary with lots of short, quick passes. just watch out for defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and his 95 hit power.
